The services of the Burji Mamluk Sultans to the sacred lands (784-923/1382-1517)

In this research, the services of the Burji Mamluk sultans to Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem were examined. The research consists of an introduction and three parts. In the introduction, the importance and reasons of Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem for Muslims, as well as the importance of serving the Alharemeyn, which represents Mecca and Medina, and the third of them, Jerusalem. In this part, the history of the Mamluk State is briefly mentioned. In the first part, the benevolence and treats made by the sultans to the public, in the second part, the services for the comfort and safety of the pilgrims, and in the third part, the services for the masjids are examined. The services of amirs and sheriffs were also included in the services of the sultans. Where necessary, the services of the Bahri Mamluk sultans are also mentioned. During the research, source works and research studies of the period were used. The obtained information has been compared and classified, so that a plot has been tried to be established. This has not always been possible and the information is presented in chronological order independent of the plot. Among the services rendered are sending mahmil and the kiswa, distributing grain and money to the public, sending hil'at and gifts to the sheriff of Mecca, ensuring the internal and external security of the city, meeting water needs, meeting the road safety and all kinds of needs of the pilgrims, building structures in the cities for the benefit of the people, There are some benevolences such as repairing, improving and decorating the masjids, giving the mahfil and pulpit as gifts, and ensuring the development of the city and the tranquility of the people, especially after natural disasters. As a result, it has been determined that the sultans of the Mamluk State served the holy places in every period. The content and rate of services have varied. However, even in the periods when the economic and political situation of the state deteriorated, the service was not stopped. Even when the pilgrimage caravan could not be taken out for fear of road safety, the mahmil symbolizing the dominance of the Mamluk sultan in the region was sent to Mecca.
