Experience of otherization processes in working life of 1989 Bulgarian immigrants in Bursa province

The aim of this research is to reveal the othering experiences of Turkish cognates who immigrated to Turkey from Bulgaria in 1989 due to their "immigrant" identity in their working and social lives. In addition to the otherization process that needs to be revealed, the attitudes of the participants towards Syrian asylum seekers who came to Turkey due to internal october in Syria about 22 years after their migration experience were also included in the study. In this way, it was aimed whether the Turkish descendants who emigrated from Bulgaria changed their position in their own social positions for Syrians both during the period of their arrival in Turkey and years later, and to what extent, if any, they applied the "other" positioning for themselves to Syrian asylum seekers in their working life and social life. A total of 30 Bulgarian immigrants were interviewed by including 3 neighborhoods of Bursa province (Adalet, Hurriyet and Balkan) within the scope of the research. The 30 participants in the interview were selected with semi-structured interview management and simple incidental sampling. At the same time, these interviews were recorded with the written approval of the participants and were carried out by preventing the loss of data that may occur during the field research. A 28-question interview form was prepared by the researcher and his advisor. The questions on the interview form consist of question groups aimed at exposing the demographic characteristics of the participants, their experiences of migration and migrants, identification of themselves and their environment, experiences of exclusion and citizenship, and finally their attitudes towards Syrian refugees. After the conducted field data collection stage, the collected data were analyzed by means of the Maxqda qualitative data analysis program. As a result of the study, it was found that there was a difference in the identification of Bulgarian migrants in terms of their identification and the identifications used by local people to identify them, but the vast majority of participants were not "marginalized" by the local people in their working life and social life. On the other hand, it has been revealed that the participants are in an marginalization trend towards Syrian asylum seekers.
