Abstract (EN)

Bursa is recognized as a city with a rich cultural heritage, distinguished by its centuries-old trees, historical structures, and natural beauty. The city's designation as "Green Bursa" is primarily attributed to the abundance of parks, gardens, and green spaces, along with its diverse vegetation. By preserving its green areas and implementing increasing afforestation projects, Bursa offers an environmentally friendly living environment. These efforts aim to enhance the quality of life within the city and develop sustainable environmental policies. Urban trees play a crucial role in the urban ecosystem. Urban afforestation not only contributes to ecological balance but also regulates the relationship between cities and the surrounding forests. Furthermore, urban forestry, including the planning and management of forest resources within cities, constitutes an integral part of this ecosystem. Urban landscape vegetation plays a significant role in reducing air pollution, improving air quality, enhancing urban health, and increasing overall living standards. However, trees affected by environmental factors may lose their functionality over time. Biotic and abiotic factors cause damage to trees, necessitating proper care, maintenance, and regular pruning for their preservation. To maintain tree health, it is essential to take preventive measures against injuries, treat decay in a timely manner and implement protective interventions. Such maintenance practices contribute to prolonging the life cycle of trees in a more sustainable manner. In this study, artificial wounds measuring 5 cm and 10 cm in diameter were created on three specimens of 18 different broadleaf and coniferous tree species located within the green areas of Bursa Botanic Park. The wounds were created on healthy sections of the trunk and bark, and diameter measurements were taken at the wounded area using a caliper. The study aimed to assess the effects of tree species, growth rates, and wound size on wound closure, thereby providing a guide for pruning practices in urban trees. Over the course of three years, the wound closure rates varied depending on tree species and wound size.
