The ceramics at Bursa Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts

The aim of this study is to determine the eras the ceramics in the museum belong and the importance of the pieces with regard to sub groups they are in. The studies are conducted in two steps. The first step involves the research in the museum. At this stage the dough of the ceramics, the fabrication technique, the adornment technique and the composition features of the works are analysed in detail and the information got from the analysis is recorded on the standardized catalog files. Moreover, the pieces are documented with drawings and pictures. At this stage the section drawings and form drawings of the pieces are prepared. The second part of the study is conducted by analysing the written sources.The study is conducted on 58 pieces of ceramics. These are; 2 pieces belonging to Byzantium Era, 16 pieces belonging to Seljuk Era and 40 pieces belonging to Ottoman Era. Among the Ottoman ceramics, which are divided into 5 sub classes there is 1 piece in single-coloured glazed group, there are 9 pieces in Milet style ceramics group, 18 ceramics in blue-white ceramics group, 3 in Şam style ceramic group and 9 in Rodos type ceramics.The pieces from Byzantium and Seljuks Era have been dated by comparing them with similar works, whereas the ones from Ottoman Era are datedwith regard to its sub eras. Ottoman Era ceramics consists of single coloured sirli ceramics, Milet style, Blue- white, Şam style, Rodos Style ceramics.
