Abstract (EN)
Historical buildings and structures are culturally significant and important landmarks, which are regarded as prime members of the world's heritage. These historical buildings guide us for understand the old generations experience, knowledge and construction techniques. We should lay claim to our cultural heritage by protecting our historical buildings in the light of this experience. Primarily, for doing analysis, proper structural models of these buildings have to be set up. With the conclusion of this structural analysis, necessary precautions have to be taken, such as restorations, strengthening and additional reinforcing for transfer to our next generations. Bursa is a historically and culturally significant city of many centuries, which holds the distinction of being the first capital of Ottoman Empire. The Grand Mosque, which still has the widest area of prayers of any mosque in Turkey, was completed in 1399 during the reign of Yıldırım Beyazıd. During the reign of Beyazıd's son Çelebi Mehmet, Green Mosque was completed in 1419, which is best known for its unique green tiles, hence the name. Numerical models were produced for the analysis of the structural behaviours of these two mosques, both of which are parts of UNESCO World Heritage in Bursa. For the modal analysis of these structures, three dimensional finite element models were put together using solid and shell elements. After modal analysis phase, the most critical sections and parts of Grand Mosque were determined under the earthquake effect.
