Bursevi's views on usul al-fiqh and furu al-fiqh in the tafsir of the Ruhu'l-Beyan

This doctoral thesis study was carried out in order to reveal the views of İsmail Hakkı Bursevî on the usul-i fiqh and füru al-fiqh in his interpretation of "Rûhu'l-Beyân". One of the main reasons for our work based on this commentary is that this work has the feature of an Ishari/Sufi commentary. Ishari (mystical) tafsir is a type of tafsir that has its own unique features since it is a tafsir created with meanings born to the heart of a sufi commentator when he reads the Qur'an. The work of making judgements from the provision verses is an action that is subject to objective rules within the framework of the rules of fiqh. Therefore, we think that it is an important requirement to determine the approach of and method of interpretation the ishari tafsir to the provision verses. Our thesis consists of four section. In the first section, the concepts of tafsir, ta'wil and ishari tafsir are explained. In the second the life and scientific personality of Ismail Hakkı Bursevi has been emphasized and also some information has been given about Tafsir of "Ruhul Beyan". Third and fourth sections constitute the main chapters of our thesis. In the third section, the interpretation method of the provisions verses by Ismail Hakkı Bursevi was evaluated within the scope of the systematics and rules of usul al-fiqh. In the fourt section, Bursevi's opinions about furu al-fiqh is discussed and interpreted. The findings obtained as a result of the interpretation of the provisions verses and the examination of his view on furu al-fiqh were summarized in the section of conclusion. In our study, we believe that impotant determinations and findings regarding the fiqh aspect of ishari tafsir are revealed. We see in the consequence of this work that sufi mufassirs use not only common fiqh resources bu also sufistic konowledge sources such us inspiration, clairvoyance and dream. When they choose and prefer the decrees of fiqh set forth by the scholars of islamic law (mujtahids) they also conduct within the scope of sufi principles. This situation shows that there are effects of sufistic perspective while transfer the provisions of fiqh on the lives of sufi members.
