Abstract (EN)
Sustainable construction is a backup concept that is of concern to the whole world to advocate against climate change by constructing using techniques that aim to minimize ecological nuisance given that construction works have a considerable impact on environmental degradation and people's lives. This article aims to assess the sustainability impacts specifically on the environment, resource depletion and reduced lifespan of structures that are due to the omission of structural analysis in Reinforced Concrete (RC). The study was conducted in Burundi, which is a developing country that has gone through various socio-political crisis, and which determines the current situation of its construction industry with several construction projects that many of them are carried out devoid the structural analysis stage. A survey was undertaken in the 3 major cities of the country with 258 respondents who make up the construction industry in Burundi the data analysis was implemented using SPSS v.30 and AMOS 26 software and to have the most accurate calculations, different approaches were used including the reliability test, the Kaiser–Meyer– Olkin (KMO) test, Bartlett's test, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) by different fit indicators and the Relative Importance Index (RII) and the results were Exquisite. It concluded that reinforced concrete is the type of structure commonly used in Burundi and that the major challenges are financial constraint, poor quality of materials, quality assurance of the education system, non-compliance with the regulatory framework and lack of monitoring and evaluation all being reasons for the ignorance of certain stages of the design including the structural analysis followed by harmful consequences already recorded. Government bodies together with construction agents can collaborate and promote community welfare plus respect for the laws so that the construction works can be carried out properly.
