Abstract (EN)
Today, the decrease in oil reserves due to technological developments and rapid population growth has accelerated the search for alternative fuels. Many alcohols with high oxygen content such as methanol, ethanol, and butanol in diesel engines are preferred as additives in fuels because they reduce pollutant emissions. In this study, experiments were carried out in a single-cylinder diesel engine by mixing butanol fuel with 10%, 20%, and 30% diesel fuel. The experiments were tested at 5 different engine speeds, 1600, 1900, 2200, 2500, and 2800 rpm. The effects of the experimental fuels created under 50% and 100% engine load conditions on engine performance and exhaust emissions were investigated. In addition, the diesel engine elements used before starting the experiments were cleaned and the soot and changes that occurred after the experiments were observed. As a result of the study, it was seen that carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxide (NOx), and soot emission values of n-butanol added fuels decreased compared to diesel fuel. Carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrocarbon emissions have increased compared to pure diesel fuel. The effective engine power and engine torque values, which are one of the important engine performance parameters, decreased as the butanol fuel content increased. Butanol fuel, which has a low calorific value, increased the specific fuel consumption (ÖYT) values. As a result of the experiments, the use of butanol in the diesel engine decreased the engine performance but improved the exhaust emissions. Keywords: Butanol, Alternative Fuel, Diesel fuel, Emission
