Growing economic roles of municipilaties with budget and value creation mechanisms

In today's world, where the emphasis on the global system is frequently brought to the agenda, the economic networks can affect the smallest administrative units with the benefits of technological developments, the belief that economic development can take place together with the local administrative units of the nation is strengthening. While the economic trends of the world highlighting the cities, Turkey is included in this trend. In Turkey, policies are developed in order local governments to contribute to the realization of national development in a holistic manner under the leadership of the metropolitan municipalities. In the Five-Year Development Plans, The policies to strengthen local governments have often been developed.With regard to obtaining information on the whole of local governments, metropolitan municipalities can provide strong data on the economic roles of local governments.Because the economic service networks of the metropolitan cities are quite wide, and their corporate potential is very strong. Metropolitan cities can join huge economic networks with their population and economic power. By using domestic and foreign borrowing, they bring projects that need great economic resources to life. In this study, it is aimed to create data sets and present a holistic table about the economic size of the local governments particularly metropolitans in Turkey by the evaluation of the relevant institution's publications and legal legislations, starting from the local government. The focus is on budget expenditure and revenue realizations and personnel figures of metropolitan municipalities, companies, and affiliated administrations.
