Ray city during the Buwayhids period

The city of Ray, located on the Historical Silk Road, is one of the ancient and important Iranian cities. The fact that it is located at an important intersection point connecting the west and east of Iran increases the importance of the city. And this caused Ray to be the capital of the Jibal branch of Buwayhids for about 90 years. In our study called "Ray City during the Buwayhids Period", the situation of the mentioned city on the social, political, economic, physical and scientific issues in that time when it was the capital city of Buwayhids was examined. In addition, the management understanding of Shia Buwayhids was analyzed through the city of Ray. Moreover, in this period, the reasons for the progress especially in the field of science and culture were emphasized. Here I must express that it is observed that the studies on the Buwayhids in general focus on the political history and the Baghdad branch of Buwayhids. However we hope that this study will bring a different dimension to the Buwayhid studies in terms of offering a view "from environment to the center". The administration of the important centers such as Isfahan, Hamadan, Qazvin, Nahavand and Qum from Ray during the Buwayhids period expresses that this city had a strong political identity at that time. The fact that gathering of many scholars who belong to different theological views such as Ibn Babawayh Shaykh Saduq, Qadi Abd Al-Jabbar and Ibn Furak in Ray city during this period shows the cultural diversity here. Moreover, the fact that Ray became one of the most powerful centers of the Muʿtazila Sect with the attempts of Vizier Sahib Ibn Abbad in the Buwayhids period is one of the concrete indicators that reveal the interaction of Shia-Muʿtazila in this period.
