Financing of large infrastructure projects: İstanbul (Transportation project) example

The master thesis work entitled "Financing of Large Infrastructure Projects: Istanbul (Transportation Project) Example" has been dealt with in three chapters except entrance and conclusion. In the first part, the major infrastructural projects are defined and their characteristics are described and the types, benefits and effects of the major infrastructure projects are explained. In the second part, how the major infrastructure projects are financed is examined under two headings as the central government and the local governments, and it is mentioned how the authorities will meet the financing of the large infrastructure projects they will make. While central government predominantly chooses the build-operate-transfer model in the financing of major infrastructure projects, local governments mainly go to external borrowing. The legal processes that must be followed in relation to the types of financing preferred by the authorities are also specified. In the third part, the Istanbul case was examined under the financing of the Great Infrastructure Projects, and the Bridge Projects, Railway Systems Projects, Tube Crossing Projects and Airport Projects related to the transportation made in Istanbul were examined separately and the financing of the costs of the Great Infrastructure Projects were individually shown. In the Great Infrastructure Projects financed by the BOT model in Istanbul, it is also mentioned how the project owner financed the costs of consortia. In the conclusion part, financing varieties have been evaluated according to the authority which uses financing, and advantageous and disadvantaged aspects are put forward. As a result, it has been determined that the authorities that have undertaken the Great Infrastructure Projects have recently been directed towards the most beneficial way of financing the projects they finance.
