Investigation of 24-MONTH improvement between the firsttreatment and retreatment treatment in large-lesionedteeth by fractal analysis: retrospective analysis study

Our study, ıt was aimed to compare the improvement after 24 months between primary endodontic treatment and retreatment by using the fractal analysis method. In this study consists of 2 separate groups as primary endodontic treatment and retreatment. 42 teeth (n = 42) in the primary endodontic treatment group and 41 teeth (n = 41) in the retreatment group were included in our study. Panoramic x-rays recorded before and after treatment were determined in both treatment groups. Panoramic radiography was transferred to ImageJ (ImageJ; US National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD) program. The ROI areas to be studied were selected as 60X60 square pixels. The selected ROI was cut, saved in JPEG format and duplicated. Fractal analysis box count method steps were followed in selected ROI areas. Post-treatment fractal dimension values were not statistically significant in both groups compared to pre-treatment.(p>0,05) There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of fractal dimension difference values. No correlation was observed between treatment success and gender.(p>0,05) Statistically significant decreases were observed in the PAI values within the group(p<0,001), and no significant difference was observed in terms of time-dependent decreases between the groups.(p>0,05) As a result, studies should be supported by clinical parameters to ensure consensus in fractal analysis research. Further studies are needed with three-dimensional imaging techniques.
