Abstract (EN)
The Great Melen Basin is located in the boundaries of Düzce. This Basin is formedaround Efteni Lake by the combination of the Small Melen Creek from YığılcaVillage, Asar Water which originates from Bolu Mountain and passes throughKaynaşlı and Düzce, Uğur Water from The South of Düzce Plain and Aksu Streamfrom the southwest of Gölkaya Village naming as Great Melen Stream. The streams in basin are faced with pollution problem because of intensive industry, insufficient substructure, improper urbanization, savage storage of garbage, atmospheric emmissions, agricultural fertilizers and pesticides. The pollution isintense especially in Small Melen Stream, Asar Water and Great Melen Stream. In this study, the sources of pollution in the streams of the Great Melen Basin areanalysed. According to the sources of pollution over the rivers, 6 different points forsampling the river water are defined on these rivers ( 2 points on Great MelenStream, 3 points on Small Melen Stream, one point on Asar Water). From November2005 to September 2006, water samples taken from these points every two monthsand analysed using some of the parameters that are illustrated in SKKY Table 1. Theresults of the analysis are demonstrated graphically and the quality of water wasdetermined. As a result, the precautions for preserving and control of water qualityare designated.Key words ;Great Melen Basin, quality of water.
