Abstract (EN)
Geopolitically and geostrategically, The Middle East form one of the most important regions on earth. Its underground resources, straits and canals increase the importance of the Middle East. Demographically, in the region, where the majority is composed of Arabs and Muslims, has been a chaotic scene over years. Longlasting civil wars and struggles among madhabs are some of the reasons ofthis chaos.During pre-cold war period, there was a structer with two poles in the world. The U.S.A. and Russia were two most important powers. When the cold war ended, the Iron Curtain collapsed and structure with two poles changed into a one-poled one, and the U.S. became the only super power. Given the U.S. wouldn?t like to lose its current strength, by ruling over the Middle East, which is a curicial point, wants to hold the sovereignty in the world aganist its rivals that are European Union, China, Russia and India.After 9/11 terrorist attacs, terrorism has shaped the agenda of the U.S. The U.S. attacking Afghanistan giving shelter to Al-Queda just after the attacks, started a war aganist Iraq. The U.S. entering the Middle East by making 9/11 as an excuse, suggesting a Project aiming to bring democracy to the countries around this region and decrease the terror. That is the Great Middle East Project to change and transform the Middle East.Turkiye is olso within the range of this change and transformation Project. Turkiye, a key nation in view of geopolitical and geostrategic aspects, has an important role for the Project. Turkiye, whose position is considered to be the model, is tried to become the center of this Project.Key Words: The U.S.A., Greater Middle East Project, The Middle East, Terrorism, Turkey.
