Abstract (EN)

In this research, it is evaluated that general fire fighting services can be performed within the scope of volunteering in our country as in many developed countries. The potential of volunteer firefighting was investigated under the management of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. The benefits of volunteer firefighting services to the society were emphasized. Interview method is used in the research. Interviews were conducted with 6 executives in the Department of Fire Department of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. 10 questions were asked to the subscriber about the current situation, potential and implementation of Volunteer Firefighting in İzmir. According to the results of this study, it is stated that volunteer fire fighting system has an important function but volunteer practice cannot be done because of the lack of legal regulations in İzmir. In addition, Turkey isn't benefiting sufficiently from the of voluntary services in disaster management, it is understood that all segments of society should be made aware of the benefits of volunteering.
