Abstract (EN)

As of the second half of the 19th century, with the influence of modernism, a break from tradition began in the art of painting, and this break created a new understanding of art. Especially the great changes in the narrative of the figure also changed the narrative of the portrait. In the early 20th century, significant changes in the depiction (narrative) of the portrait formed the basis for the narrative of the portrait in Contemporary Western Art. In contemporary art, the model-portrait approach has been abandoned and the individual approaches of artists have gained importance. Within the scope of the limitations of the study, one of the contemporary art movements The portrait in Pop Art, Neo Expressionism, Postmodernism, Photo Realism and Contemporary Art is analyzed. The portrait, which is based on the pure aesthetics and limited narrative of modernism, has undergone significant changes in terms of technical and material as well as formal, coloristic and narrative changes with contemporary art. Especially postmodern discourses have created radical changes in the art of painting, and these major changes have been especially on the narrative of the portrait, and the portrait has become the main element of art. In these portraits, which are not a continuation of modernism, there have been significant changes in form, color, form, composition, technical material and especially in narrative, and these changes and narratives that the portraits of contemporary painting have been burdened with have become very difficult to understand and have turned into an information-based narrative. It is predicted that the new approaches exhibited by contemporary artists in their handling of portraits are gradually enriched and that new approaches to portraits will diversify with new subjects, new materials and techniques in the future.
