Abstract (EN)
People have frequently used symbols as a visual explicandum from the existence to these days. These symbols, which are used for various reasons, are approved in parallel with the visual development of the language or transform to an icon which it represents in its own parallel. Represented icons sometimes indicate an idea or a material thing. Icons, which were previously used as a part of superior culture and later on as a part of theological expression, transform to a part of culture in every field of life with the modernity. The purpose of this study is to research on the meaning of icon term and what it indicates as a concept, its usage in historical process and its transformation in modern societies. In general it is aimed to make an approach to reveal form and identity relationship in connection with idea and representation of idea from primitive societies to the modern societies. In this study it is aimed to research on the icon concept, which is discussed from Egypt art, with the works of the artist who are globally accepted and why monuments and architectural items have iconic characteristics. In the last chapter, representation of art of works and architectural works, which are considered iconic these days, are specially studied.
