Islamic thought in the contemporary architectural discourses

Contemporary architectural discourses accommodate an area, which produces architectural discourses based on Islamic thought in differentiating ways. In general, the existing image of architecture and the architectural discourses in Muslim societies makes it impossible to examine them as a self-referential area. That's why, a wide range of Islamic thought and discourse packages, both in geographical and in historical era means, were included in this thesis in order to define the interdisciplinary areas which the architectural discourses stem from. The intention by making the frame so inclusive iş to reveal the constructions, references to and interactions between other disciplines which will be encountered within Islamic architectural discourses. In this study, the reason why and the ways how the Islamic architectural discourses are produced, and the relationship of tension between this production and modernity is being examined. This research is realized through analyzing the architectural discourses which refer to several social, cultural and historical conditions as well as self-identity problems. In this thesis, a search for the conditions and dynamics which create the Islamic discourses, from the time they emerged to the present day, was aimed, in addition to this, the intention was to find out how this field reflected to architecture, for what reasons it was reproduced and how the ways to transcend the encountered problems were shaped.
