Analysis of death and cemetery themed paintings in the history of contemporary Turkish painting art

This research deals with the real and symbolic meanings of death and cemetery themes in World and Turkish Painting Art. Death and cemetery-themed works of five different artists from Turkish Painting Art were examined using various work analysis theories and methods. Osman Hamdi Bey's work, with Hartmann's Ontological theory; Hüseyin Avni Lifij's works, with Panofsky's Iconographic and Iconological theory; Cihat Burak's work, with Expressionist the orybased on Sartre's Existential Philosophy; Balkan Naci İslimyeli's work, with Freud's Psychoanalytic theory; Aydın Ayan's work was examined within the framework of Marx's Social Realist theory. By using these different theoretical approaches, an in-depth understanding of each work and the discovery of its different layers have been achieved. As a result of the analyses, it is concluded that works of art should not be evaluated within the framework of only one theory, but each work should be evaluated with different theoretical analyzes in its own context. Examining each work from a different theory or perspective reveals the multifaceted nature of art. While this approach enriches the interpretation of the works, it offers the opportunity to better understand the artist's intention and the message he wants to convey to the audience. Additionally, by using different theories, it is possible to discover the universal and timeless meanings of works of art. This study will be carried out by examining works of art andit is expected to contribute to the aducation of arts.
