Contributions of Cahit Tanyol to sociology

This thesis has been written in order to determine the contributions of Cahit Tanyol (1914-?.) who has taken place in Turkish sociology history books but still no enough studies were made about him. It is possible to summarize the methods he used in his studies as ?to analyze the historical facts with sociological point of view?. In this thesis, Cahit Tanyol?s understanding of social issues, the solutions he tried to bring have been emphasized and accordingly, his contributions into sociology have been determined.Tanyol who also produced literary works in the fields of literature and philosophy, has got lots of books and many articles which have been published in various journals as well as around one thousand newspaper articles. This study does not include Tanyol?s literary works, poems, and philosophy book. The study is based on his work titled ?Dialogues on Religion, Ethics, Secularism and Policy in terms of Sociology? and the concepts of religion, ethics, secularism, policy, reactionary-sharia etc. have been explained. This study can be a reference point for the ones who want to learn the position of Cahit Tanyol in the history of Turkish sociology.Cahit Tanyol?s understanding of society, his works, his analysis on history with a sociologic point of view, the historical comparisons he made while analyzing the social issues have been carrying significant determinations. Tanyol shows a scientific behaviour while discussing with the circumstance of Turkey, economic, political and social issues. Tanyol, who is mentioning the recent history in many of his studies, gives sociologic knowledge in his explanations.
