Abstract (EN)

In this study, terracotta figurines found in the rescue excavation carried out in 2009 in Çakalca Karadoğan Tumulus located in the Atakum District of Samsun are discussed. The figurines in question; cybele figurines with polos seated on the throne, cybele figurine heads with polos, seated female figurines, seated female figurine parts, female figurine heads, korean bird figurines, kouros figurines, gender unidentified head parts, pedestal fragments, unidentified figurine parts, independent body parts, rider horse fragment and examined under thirteen groups, including the warrior head. The aim of this study is to present these figurines found in Çakalca Karadoğan Tumulus to the scientific world by evaluating them as a catalog study in general. In figurines in general; The eyes are almond-shaped and slanted, some figurine pieces have pupils in the eyes, there are smiles peculiar to the archaic period on the faces, the hair has formed large horizontal and vertical curls on the back of the head, reflecting the characteristics of the archaic period, and in some figurines, the hair is hung in curls on the chest. The figurines with steam evacuation holes on the lower parts to prevent damage that may occur during cooking are also noteworthy. An important group of artifacts unearthed in Çakalca Karadoğan Höyük is the chorea holding a bird in their hands. Apart from these, body parts (arms, legs, feet) that have gained movement, which can be dated to the Hellenistic period, were also found in the mentioned excavation. In the study, similar figurines were reached and as a result of the evaluations, it was seen that the artifacts found belonged to different types and periods, and it was concluded that the find places of the figurines could be botros. It can be said that the figurines unearthed in Çakalca Karadoğan Höyük include the Hellenistic period as well as the archaic period. As a result of the studies carried out in the mound in question, important data were obtained about the Archaic, classical and Hellenistic periods of Samsun. As a result of the evaluations made on the threshold of the unearthed finds, the first clues showing the existence of the earliest dated Cybele cult in the Black Sea region, that Samsun was a Miletos colony, are the figurines found in Çakalca Karadoğan Tumulus, and the closest archaeological site to the date range given in the ancient sources regarding the colonization process.
