Abstract (EN)
This study examines the relationship between work-life balance and life satisfaction among female employees. Work-life balance refers to an individual's ability to maintain harmony between their professional and private life, while life satisfaction is a subjective cognitive evaluation that reflects a person's overall happiness and well-being. The sample of the study consists of white-collar women working in various sectors across the cities of Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, and Kocaeli. Data were collected using the Work-Life Balance Scale and the Life Satisfaction Scale. Statistical analyses such as ANOVA, t-tests, correlation, and regression were conducted to assess the relationships and differences among the variables. Findings reveal that higher levels of work-life balance are associated with greater life satisfaction. In particular, the sub-dimensions of positive spillover—work-to-life positive effect and life-to-work positive effect—were found to be significant predictors of life satisfaction. In contrast, the sub-dimensions reflecting negative interactions—work-to-life negative effect and life-to-work negative effect—did not have a significant impact on life satisfaction. These results suggest that positive transitions between work and private life play a more influential role in enhancing overall well-being. Moreover, several demographic variables such as age, having children, job position, income level, city of residence, working hours, working modality, and commuting factors were found to significantly affect both work-life balance and life satisfaction. Notably, women with children reported lower levels of both work-life balance and life satisfaction, while women in managerial positions reported higher levels. Marital status and education level did not significantly differentiate participants' work-life balance or life satisfaction scores. In conclusion, work-life balance emerges as a crucial factor in enhancing the life satisfaction of female employees. The study highlights the importance of implementing flexible working arrangements, family-friendly policies, and organizational support systems to help women achieve a healthier balance between work and personal life, thereby improving their overall well-being.
