Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to determine a number of possible consequences of perceived overqualification (POQ) in the context of the Person-Environment Fit Theory, Social Cognitive Theory and Social Exchange Theory. Although many studies in the relevant literature have focused on the impact of POQ on the turnover intention (TI), in this study in addition to TI, the effects of the employees' POQ on their potential consequences e.g.; compulsory citizenship behaviors (CCB), social loafing behaviors (SLB) and careerism orientation (CO) have attempted to determine. In the international literature, although there are studies investigating the relationship between POQ and many attitudes and behaviors, a study examining the relationship among POQ, CCB, SLB and CO has not been found in the literature. Additionally, lacking of quantitative studies determining the consequences of this perception in Turkey constitutes the main motivation of this research. In this context, the sample of the study consists of 334 service sector employees in Istanbul, which were reached in December 2017 and January 2018 by using convenient sampling method. To collect data, survey technique was used and the questionnaire was applied to the same people in two different time periods (With 6 weeks break; Time1: POQ, TI, CO; Time2: CCB, SLB). Data were analyzed by using SPSS software. Findings show that the job misprision dimension of the POQ has a statistically significant and positive effect on CCB, TI, SLB and CO, while the self-righteousness dimension of the POQ only has a statistically significant and positive effect on CO. Keywords: Perceived overqualification, compulsory citizenship behaviors, turnover intention, social loafing behaviors, careerism orientation
