A study on the relationship of employee's safety climate perception and intent to leave

This study aims to examine whether there is a significant relationship between employees' perception of safety climate and intent to leave. The study also aims to determine whether there is a statistically significant difference between demographic factors, perception of safety climate and intention to leave. The sample of the study consists of 257 people working in the mining sector in Gümüşhane. Questionnaire method, a quantitative research method, was used as data collection tool in the study. Reliability analysis, Frequency distribution, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test and Correlation Analysis were used in the evaluation of the data. A statistically significant, negative and moderate relationship was found between the perception of safety climate and the intention to leave according to the findings. In addition, no statistically significant difference was observed between safety climate and intention to leave and the demographic factors of the participants, such as age, marital status, education level, and work unit. However, a statistically significant difference was found between the participants' service time at their current workplace and their intention to leave. As a result, in this study examining the relationship between safety climate and intention to leave, a statistically significant and negative relationship was found between the two variables. Based on this result, ensuring the creation and development of a safety climate and creating a safe working environment in the workplace play an important role in order to reduce the intent to leave of the employees.
