ABSTRACT Doctorate Thesis The Intermediary Role of Self-Efficacy and Leadership on the Effect of the Pygmalion Perception of the Workers upon Motivation: TRB1 Region Healthcare Staff Research Eray Ekin SEZGİN The University Of Fırat The Institute Of Social Science Department of Health Management ELAZIĞ – 2018, Page: XIV+144 Healthcare services and especially the hospitals need to improve their technology rapidly, change their management mentality and approach to human resource with a totally different perspective by changing labor force structurally to be successful and to provide a competitive advantage at the health industry market in the globalizing world. The maintenance of the hospitals in the dynamism of business life against difficult competition conditions has been based on some factors from past to present and the key factor for health businesses is human. The ability to provide mutual satisfaction both on the side of the demandant and supplier is without doubt closely related to taking the right executive steps at the hospitals during this process. The occurrence of Pygmalion Perception, which helps to managers to carry out their roles effectively during this executive process, in health services can be possible if the managers can contribute to the development of healthcare staff. The fact that positive results of Pygmalion Perception have been obtained in literature has brought about the idea that it may be beneficial at health sector, as well. The purpose of the research carried out in this context is to examine the effect of the perception of the manager expectations by the healthcare staff on the motivation of health workers. A detailed literature review has been made and the model has been applied together with the participation of 414 health workers working at public-private hospitals in TRB1 region (Elazığ, Malatya, Bingöl, Tunceli) to actualize the purpose of the study. In the study, the data has been collected via "survey method," a method used commonly for gathering first-rank data, and the healthcare staff at the hospitals has been reached directly. According to the findings of the research, it has been detected that the perception of the workers as to the expectations of the managers have an effect on their motivation within the context of Pygmalion perception. In the analyses conducted, it is seen that leadership scales and self-efficacy, too, affect the motivation of the health workers and it has been proved that leadership and self-efficacy have an intermediary role between the perception of health workers about manager expectations and the motivation of the health workers.
