An analysis of the reasons for public sector choice in working life

The aim of this study is to put forward the reason of the selection of the public sector and the differences between public-private sector working life with the result of assesments in the face of questions raised to the public-private sector employees interviewed in accordance with the study and of the findings reached at the end of the literature research performed. Non-existence of any study on the reasons of public-private sector choices in Turkey and the existence of an intense demand oriented towards public sector have become a motivation factor the realisation of this study. In order to secure this aim, literature review has been performed and information relating to public sector and private sector has been gathered. One of the qualitative research methods using semi-structured interview technique, interview has been performed with 36 workers in total, 6 of whom are private sector managers, 6 of whom are public sector managers, 7 of whom are civil servants, 6 of whom are personnel, 6 of them workers in private sector, with specifically designed open-ended questions oriented towards them. Inputs of the research have been gathered through "an inquiry composed of open-ended questions" and analysed by using "content analysis method". With the realised research, it has been tried to analyse if there exists advantageous sides of working in public sector with respect to private sector and the reasons of the citizens' tendency for choosing working in public sector. Factors closely related to the working life have been evaluated with a comparison via public and private sectors and the workers' choice of sector has been emphasized. In this context, legal rights of workers in private and public sectors have been explicated and differences between the sectors at legal level have been put forth.
