Gender inequalities in working life and national and international labor regulations for removing gender inequalities

The aim of this study is to provide an analysis of women labor force from a gender perspective, to examine on the base of gender provision of social security and labor legislations in Turkey.The study has three parts. In the first part, in order to understand inequalities, concepts of equality, discrimination and gender equality are defined. The features of these concepts are explained.The second part evaluates the reasons behind women?s low rates of labor force participation in Turkey. Situation of women labor force in Turkey is analyzed by using the statistical data from TÜİK.The third part covers national and international regulations and legislation in terms of gender equality. Turkish law relating to the gender equality in the working life is examined in this part. International organizations such as United Nations (UN), Council of Europe, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the European Union (EU) have issued various documents about prevention of discrimination. Discrimination forbidden and about gender equality, international treaties, conventions and directives are focused in this part.
