ABSTRACT Although women's population over the total in a society covers approximately the half, women do not still enough have the justice and have a say in matters on the administration of the society as taking into account that there might be some differences which negligibly vary between the countries. As women could not take a part in occupation as regarding relative women's to the women's ratio over the population; women could not have got rid of as being treated as a second class standby partner when even taking in a part in occupation. Despite of fact that women's principals related to the work directives that have been taken under prevention with international agreements and declarations in nearly all the developed and developing countries; women are still being exposed to the discriminatory applications based on basically the gender. Professional apartheids based on the gender, one of the examples is the barriers that women face up during the promotion ranks in the management. This work consists of three chapters that cover up the topics of the women, especially women managers who come to terms with some discrimination applications in various subjects such as determination of the rank for the salary even before having the job and losing the job and also during being promoted in their profession life. In the first introductory chapter of this thesis, the subject, the aim and the highlights are given together with the methods and in the form of conceptual frame headlines. The second main headline named as "management and women" in this chapter was discussed and the definitions of the management, the directors and the women directors were dwelled upon by make use of the related literature as well. In the second chapter; a historical overview of the women status, women before Cumhuriyet and the women during Cumhuriyet period,the roles of the women in public life and the status along with the given rights were considered. The participating of the work force by the women, women and men professions and the theme of discrimination at work life were investigated as subheading inside the main heading; "work life and women work force" in detail. The other topic which was discussed above with various aspects was gathered under the head "women directors at work life". Related to the above theme; the ratio of women directors taking a part in management status, women directors at public sector, the status of the women at health and education sectors, the barriers against getting promotions for a woman, women doing an academic carrier and its ratio in women directors, women directors at private sectors and inequity against women directors were investigated in details under their subheadings. In the third which is the last chapter, a field search about women directors' working at Muğla Province was performed utilizing questionnaire methods. The data obtained as a result questionnaires done for the women directors were analysed and interpreted. At the end, the results and the assessments were given in detail.
