Glassed embroidered bridal mirrors and new designs

Folk painting is a type of painting that naive artists who have not received an art education put forward with their own traditional methods by feeding on folk culture. From a broad perspective, wall paintings, book paintings, coffeehause paintings, lithographs, and glass paintings are all considered folk art. The aim of the research is to identify, document and update the under-glass ornamented bridal mirrors, which have an important place in folk arts and are about to be forgotten, and to re-introduce these cultural assets and present them for use. As a result of the field research, bridal mirrors with under-glass ornaments found in Konya, İzmir, İstanbul, Ankara, Aksaray and Mardin provinces were examined and new designs were created. Within the scope of the research, scanning, descriptive and experimental research models were used. In the first stage of the research, written sources were searched and the under-glass ornamented bridal mirrors in Turkey were determined by scanning method, and 40 mirrors were analyzed in terms of pattern, color, composition and technical characteristics. In the last stage of the research, 10 under-glass ornamented bridal mirrors were designed and the designs were transformed into products. In the study, suggestions were also made to unearth the bridal mirrors with under-glass ornaments and to take their place in our culture again.
