Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the environmental impacts of greenhouse gas emissions from ships have been examined, and the emissions of vessels passing through the Dardanelles Strait have been analyzed. A modeling study was conducted to estimate these emissions using the available data. Within the scope of the study, carbon emissions were calculated based on ship passage statistics covering the period from 2019 to 2025 (75 months), using the Trozzi and Vaccaro methodology. During the prediction process, the carbon emission data obtained through the Trozzi and Vaccaro methodology were used to apply Linear Regression, Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), and Sequential Minimal Optimization for Regression (SMOreg) algorithms via Weka software. The performance of the models was compared using evaluation metrics such as Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). This study not only reports the current levels of emissions but also aims to contribute to the literature through the forecasting results and to provide decision-makers with informative insights for environmental planning and the development of emission control strategies.
