Researches on determining the favorable strawberry (Fragaria spp.) cultivars for Çanakkale conditions

ABSTRACTRESEARCHES ON DETERMINING THE FAVORABLE STRAWBERRY(Fragaria spp.) CULTIVARS FOR ÇANAKKALE CONDITIONSThis research was carried out in the research and application areas of CanakkaleOnsekiz Mart University Faculty of Agriculture Department of Horticulture both ingreenhouse and outside conditions in years 2002 and 2003.In the outside trial seven strawberry cultivars; Annapolis, Camarosa, Evita,Tudla, Elsanta, Elvira and Delmarvel were used as plant material. In greenhouse trialsSweet Charlie, Dorit, Chandler, H-1, Selva were also added to the seven cultivars used inoutside.According to the data obtained from greenhouse trials; Chandler was found tobe the highest yielding cultivar and followed by Selva, Evita, and Sweet Charlierespectively. The biggest fruits were obtained from the cv. Sweet Charlie and followedby Camarosa and Evita respectively. For fruit firmness Camarosa and Delmarvel gave thehighest results whereas Delmarvel had the highest total soluble solid content and vitaminC.According to the data obtained from outside trials, Tudla was found to be thehighest yielding cultivar and followed by Camarosa and Elvira respectively. The biggestand firmest fruits were obtained from Camarosa and Tudla cultivars. Also it wasdetermined that Delmarvel, Tudla and Evita had the highest total soluble solid content.Key Words: Strawberry, strawaberry cultivars, adaptation, yield, fruit quality.II
