The ornithofauna of Sariçay Delta in Çanakkale

This study was carried to determine the ornithofauna of Sarıçay Delta which is located in Çanakkale province. In the study period from November 2003 – May 2005, 90 bird species belonging to 34 families from 15 orders were identified in the area. Among these species defined, 43 species were resident, 19 species were winter visitor, 22 species were summer visitor, 4 species were feeding visitor and 2 species were passage migrants. The study area, which is situated on one of the migration routes over Turkey for birds, has a dam lake and wetlands occurring around the dam lake during the spring and fall.
