Abstract (EN)

In this work, heavy metal concentrations (As, Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn) and microbiological analysis of 40 tap water samples, collected in Çanakkale city center from 20th April to 5th May 2007, were analyzed. Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn were analyzed using Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES) and As was analyzed using Differential Pulse Adsorptive Stripping Voltammetry (DPASV). Results showed that Cd concentration was under the detection limits of instrument and the concentrations of As, Cu, Pb and Zn were between 0.95-11.9 µg/L, 0.004-0.58, <0.08, and 0.004-5.3 mg/L respectively. When these results were compared to Turkish Water Standards (TSE 266), World Health Organization (WHO), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and European Commission (EC) water standards, all these values were within the permitted limits.Microbiological examination of the water samples were performed using membrane filter method. With regard to TSE, WHO, EPA and EC water standards, 28 samples by total bacteria, 19 samples by Coliform and 1 samples by Escherichia coli were at the polluted state.
