Living donor organ transplantation and obligation to inform

In spite of surgical development and success in organ transplantation, rejection of organ which is the most important barrier in organ transplantation has enabled with the discovery of new immunsuppressive drugs that prevent immunity. With the increase of living donor transplants and with the close follow-up of the donors themselves -especially in the Western countries - there are negativities that seriously affect the donor's life regarding the pressure, the risk and the medical problems they are confronted during and after the donation have been revealed. There has been a constant emphasis in the many international forums that an independent living - donor support team should exist within the organ transplant team during the donor information phase, the procedures of living donor transplants ought to be more transparent to the donor. The process of informing, enlightening and obtaining the donor's consent must be healthier. And the eventual risks must be explained correctly to the donor Medical and psychological problems and the post-transplantation problems must be registered also locally in the central data system of the Department of Health, Organ Transplantation Services by the transplantation centres themselves. All negativities that donors confront during the process must be registered also locally. The donors must be also supported in our country not only by the transplant team during the transplantation but also by an independent living donor support team. We believe that the consent of the informed donor will be more compatible with the related local laws with these new regulations.
