Abstract (EN)
Animation is a multidisciplinary art form that starts with a text and afterward visually designed, which those designs combine with motion, sound and music in the later stages. Character design cover a large area in animation production process, because of this reason it has an important position in the animation production process. Many animation project is remembered after the main character's name and image. Character design in animation is one of the most important part in a successful animation project. To make future animation projects much more successful, first of all knowledge about character designs must improve. Because of this reason we decide to make how to create successful character design as a main subject of our research. To understand how a successful character designs can be made we checked the written, and video materials about fiction character creation and share our findings in this thesis. After our written material research, we analyze more or less 150 animation projects according to their importance in animation history and their location. In the conclusion of methodical research and example studies, methods that is been using for animation character design in different period of times and locations has been revealed. It occurred that while creating the writing stage of a character design for animations, the used methodology is same with many other storytelling arts such as cinema and theater, methods that is been using for visual creation of a character design process is also similar or same with other plastic arts. Example studies show that different dates in history and different locations have aimed different target audience and design characters accordingly. In the final stage of our study we produce example character designs according to our findings. While methodical research makes a good resource for future researchers, example characters that had been created could be used in future animation projects.
