Reproduction biology of Capoeta trutta (Heckel, 1843) populations in Keban, Karakaya and Atatürk dam lakes

ABSTRACT REPRODUdTON BIOLOGY OF CAPOETA TRüTTA (HECKEL, 1843) POPULATIONS İN KEBAN, KARAKAYA AND ATATÜRK DAM LAKES Masters Thesis MustafeDÜŞÜKCAN Fuat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Aquacufture 2005,Page:90 in this study, sexual maturity age, reproduction period and fecundity of Capoeta trutla (Heckel, 1843) inhabiting Keban, Karakaya and Atatürk Dam Lakes have been determined and compared between March 2004-February 2005. in general, it was observed that female and male fish obtained from every 3 dam lakes reached to sexual maturity in age 3 and 2 respectively. Reproduction periods was found between April and June. Body weight - ovarium weight (r = 0.57, r = 0.82 and r = 0.79), body weight - testis weight (r = 0.47, r = 0.59 and r = 0.48), total body length - ovarium weight (r = 0.48, r = 0.77 and r = 0.66), total body length - testis weight (r = 0.29, r = 0.54 and r = 0.43), eggs number - body weight (r = 0.69, r = 0.77 and r.= 0.51), eggs number - total body lengm (r = 0.56, r = 0.73 and r = 0.38), eggs number - ovarium weight (r = 0.19, r = 0.76 and r = 0.43), eggs number - fish age (r - 0.63, r = 0.91 and r = 0.82), eggs number - eggs diameters (r = - 0.30, r = -0.29 and r = -0.45) and fish age - eggs diameters (r = -0.13, r = -0.39 and r = 0.83) relationships have been calculated and correlations values for Keban, Karakaya and Atatürk Dam lakes have been given in parentheses respectively. Eggs diameters of fish from every 3 dam lakes have been measured between 0.5 - 2.2 mm. Key Words: Capoeta trutta, reproduction period, egg production, sexual maturity age. vm
