Rabelais'nin Gargantua'sında Karnavalesk: "Thélème Manastırı" olgusu

The analyses of Rabelais and his work ?Gargantua? have been focused on many points rather than carnivalesque structure of the work. However the aim of this study is to mention the function and evaulate the power of the fact of `The Abbey of Thélème? in ?Gargantua? from the carnivalesque point of view. The term ?Carnivalesque? sheds light on various literary and philosophical studies. This term both refers the significance of the forms of laughing and explicates the function of laughing in XVI.Century Europe. Besides, when the said century is accepted as the critic of previous century in terms of this concept, it reminds and glorifies the critical role of 'laughing'. Following Mikhaïl Bakhtine, a Russian literature theorist who perfectly formed the concept of carnivalesque by analysing Middle Age carnivals, I think it is better to search this concept in a work summarizing the XVI. Century Europe. For this purpose, François Rabelais and one of his everlasting works ?Gargantua? reflects what we emphasize in this study. This study, titled ?Carnivalesque in Rabelais? Gargantua: `Fact of The Abbey of Thélème'?, aims to discuss whether or not carnivalesque concept can be properly attributed to the fact of `The Abbey of Thélème?. The study is composed of three parts. The first part is about the background of the problem. The second part of this dissertation includes the theoretical discussion of the problem. ?Conclusion? is the third part of this study.
