Conflict and conflict management: A comparison of public and foundation universities in İzmir

It is natural for people to have conflicts because of disagreements. Nowadays, people who have different feelings, opinions, beliefs and attitudes may be in conflict with one another in their organizations where they work together. In this study, ?conflict? term is analyzed as a subject of administrative science and its effects on organizations are examined in a theoretical framework.In the first section of the study, definitions of conflict are made and the theoretical framework is determined by factors such as the types of conflict, the place of conflict and how administrative theories deal with the issue. In the second section of the study, conditions causing conflicts in organizations are explained. In the third section, ways of dealing with conflicts in organizations are stressed and some examples are given.In the forth and last section, an implementation was made aiming to find out about sources of conflicts experienced by academicians working in the field of social sciences in public and foundation universities and the ways of solving conflicts. The questionnaire of the study was applied in public and foundation universities in the city of Izmir. In order to gather data, questions based on the theoretical section of the thesis were asked. Thus, a statistical analysis was made in order to determine the reasons academicians in public and foundation universities have conflicts, ways of managing conflicts and whether there is a meaningful relationship between causes of conflicts and ways of managing them.
