Abstract (EN)

Nanomaterials have been the subject of many researches in the literature as they have very different and useful properties compared to bulk materials. These distinct chemical, physical and biological properties are utilized in many areas of industry such as water treatment, catalysis and medicine. Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles has many superiorities compared to physical and chemical methods such as low cost, nontoxicity, and eco-sensitive. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized by using honey, native seaweed Caulerpa prolifera and invasive seaweed Caulerpa cylindracea that its invasion has not been prevented since 1991. Absence of any scientific paper related to the synthesis of silver nanoparticles by using invasive C. cylindracea and native C. prolifera is the originality of this thesis. Silver nanoparticles can be widely used in different industrial areas. In this thesis, experimental conditions related to the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles by honey and Caulerpa spp extracts were optimized. Optimization parameters were selected as agitation time, agitation rate, pH, temperature, the concentration of Caulerpa spp extracts, honey concentration, silver nitrate concentration. Synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized thorough Scanning Electron Microscopy, UV-Visible Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and X-Ray Diffraction. Synthesized silver nanoparticles were used for antifouling paint formulation and decolourization of Congo red. In addition, experimental conditions related to the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles by Caulerpa spp. were modelled using artifical neural network. In conclusion, natural and invasive seaweeds can be used to synthesize AgNPs to be evaluated in the industry.
