Abstract (EN)

The content of this thesis study which was conducted under the title of "Interpicturality Process and New Expressionist Attitude in the Example of Cecily Brown" was prepared in line with the basic concepts that form the scope of the study. In the first part of the study, the sources artists make use of while creating their works were examined in the history of art from general to specific. The changes in art within the context of modern period and postmodern period were included. Especially during the postmodern process, the term intertextuality was begun to be used for transactions about reproduction in literary area for the first time. The concept "intersemiotism", which is a branch of intertextuality, is used to express transactions between different disciplines. However, different terms have been proposed to define the transaction cycle each type of art form within itself apart from these uses which are not considered as sufficient by some theorists. Of these concepts, within the context of our subject, the term interpicturality, which was created by Lilian Louvel to explain only transactions between pictures, and methods of intertextuality were examined with examples from art history. In addition, modern and postmodern periods were compared and obvious examples of appropriation were emphasized. In the second part, the examples of Georg Baselitz, Anselm Kiefer, Jörg Immendorf, Sigmar Polke, Gerard Richter, A.r.Penck, Francesco Clemente , Sandro Chia, David Salle and Eric Fischl , who have adapted new expressionism, which is a postmodern attitude, and who are considered to be connected with the concept of intertextuality were addressed. In the third part, Cecily Brown's works were analysed within the context of intepicturality and new expressionism. The sketching process of Brown's works in which she referred to interpictural practices with her new expressionist attitude were analysed in detail. As a result, the association between sketching practice and "difference and repetition" concepts was analysed with a Deleuzian point of view. Key Words: Cecily Brown, Interpicturality, Intertextuality, Intersemiotic, Quotation, Pastiche, Parody, Reproduction, New Expressionism, Gilles Deleuze, Difference, Repetition.
