The relationship between attractiveness factors with recreational shopping, satisfaction and re-purchase intention

Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this study is to examine recreational shopping as an activity experienced by consumers with fun and pleasure. There exists relatively little researches on recreational shopping; therefore the aim of the current research is to shed some light on recreational shopping literature. In this sense, the research on recreational shopping have significant implications as to how well marketing managers of shopping centers and managers of tourism business get advantages in competition. Thus, identifying the aspects of recreational shopping would offer a theoretical frame for future studies. In this sense, the main objectives of this study are (1) to determine the underlying aspects of recreational shopping, (2) to evaluate attractiveness factors of shopping centers and attractiveness factors of destination which have some effects on recreational shopping and (3) to examine how recreational shopping influence customer satisfaction and behavioral intention. In order to achieve these goals, both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used in this study. A total of 1213 shoppers in the shopping malls in İstanbul were conducted this research. Survey method were used to collect data and descriptive statistics, Exploratory Factor Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), T-Test and ANOVA Analysis were used for data analysis. The results revealed five factors related to recreational shopping, which are ?emotional experiences?, ?hedonic shopping?, ?exploration/adventure shopping?, ?social shopping?, ?value shopping?. According to the research findings, shopping mall attractiveness factors and destination attractiveness factors found a significant relationship between recreational shopping. Recreational shopping has a significant relationship with customer satisfaction and behavioral intention. Overall, this research makes contributions to literature, tourism business managers and shopping mall managers.
