ABSTRACT Master Thesis STRESS ANALYSIS OF COMPOSITE PLATE WHICH HAS RECTANGULAR HOLE IN ITS MIDDLE AND SERVING AS A CANTILEVER BEAM UNDER TENSILE STRESS Mete Onur KAMAN University of Fırat Graduate School of Natural and Applied Science Department of Mechanical Engineering 2000, Page: 169 In this study, the elasto-plastic stress analysis of plain which are made of composite materials with rectangular hole in the middle and one edge cantilever beam and subject to uniform tension loads. For material, steel aluminium composite with aluminium matrix and steel fiber are selected. In this study, numerical solution is done by using finite element methods. For solution, nine node isoparametric quadrilateral element is used. By changing the dimensions of rectangular hole, in the middle of plane plate, various results are obtained. The elasto-plastic stress analysis is done by increasing uniform tension loads gradually from the value of the first yield and by applying to various fiber orientation angles.VI As a result of the analysis, residual stresses were obtained due to the yield emerging from the stress concentration on the composite plate. The distribution of the residual stresses around the hole were presented as charts for different hole dimensions and different orientation angles. Furthermore, depending on the gradually increasing load, plastic zone spread which was obtained from the nodes participating in yielding. As a conclusion, as the dimensions of the hole increased, internal stress increased. Besides, for each orientation angle, as the uniform tension loads increased, the stress around the hole and the area of plastic zones also increased. For the same hole dimensions and load, as the orientation angle increased, the plastic zones increased. Key Words : Elasto-plastic stress, finite element method, composite material, residual stress.
