Celal Nuri writings of committee of union and progress: Ati newspaper 30 October 1918-19 May 1919

The Committee of Union and Progress (CUP) is considered one of the most influential political organizations during the decline of the Ottoman Empire. The CUP, which was a major modernization advocate, came to power during the Great War years. Due to the political agenda of the western powers and their specific interest in Ottoman lands, policies of the CUP were strongly objected. These Western powers comprising of Great Britain, Russia and France prevented the Ottoman renaissance by blocking the CUP through specific means. The findings of this study point to the noticeable relations between Great Britain and Alemdar newspaper. Refi Cevat?s columns are found to be provocative and biased against the CUP.
