ABSTRACT Master Thesis ELASTIC AND ELASTO-PLASTIC STRESS ANALYSIS REINFORCED STAINLESS STEEL THERMOPLASTIC MATRIX LAMINATED PLATES Gurbet ÖRÇEN University of Fırat Graduate School of Natural and Applied Science Department of Mechanical Engineering 2005, Page: 147 In this study, elastic and elastic-plastic stress analysis carried out by the finite element method (FEM) the thermoplastic composite laminate plates with eliptic hole. Composite layers in the laminated plates consist of the stainless steel woven fibers and the low density polyethylene. The thermoplastic matrix composite layers reinforced by long stainless steel fiber is manufactured by using molds under heating and press loading. The laminated plates [0°/- 9°] consist of four composite layers and bonded symmetrically. The composite plates under uniform transverse loading. Each layer with constant thickness is meshed into 13 elements and 69 nodes. The loading is gradually increased from yield point of the plate. The load steps increased as 0.0001 MPa at each iteration 25, 50, 75 and 100. Because of symmetry and to save time % of the thermoplastic composite laminate plate is been taken. To make the elastic, plastic, elastic-plastic and residual stresses of according to load steps and different orientation angles composite plates. According to results, stress components, which show difference symmetricaly, have been obsorved in the 1. and 8. plates. Also, it has been seen that stresses had been intersified around the eliptic hole.
