Abstract (EN)

Machining can be called as chipping off the material with the help of various inserts or separating the unwanted material. In machining processes, the manufacturing stages consist of long and laborious processes. In order for the production to fully fulfill its task, the design must be complete and the production must be in accordance with the design. Many cost factors arise while doing all these operations. The main goal is to minimize the cost factors and to produce the production at the desired quality and in a shorter time. One of the cost factors is the machinability of the material. The better the machinability, the shorter the production time and the lower the costs, but the harder the machinability, the higher the production times and costs. In this thesis, general information about the machining process is given, optimization is explained, the concept of machinability is explained and various examples about machinability are given. Machining of a selected machine part was made using different steel materials and cost analysis was made by applying machinability criteria. Steel materials used in the study; AISI 1040, St52-3 and AISI 4140+QT steels. As a result of the studies, it has been seen that the machinability performance of the steels has a positive effect on the operating cost.
