Abstract (EN)
The cello, which has been in existence for hundreds of years and has been increasingly gaining popularity in the 21st century, is considered as an instrument of elegance and prestige in the world of music. The rich, deep, and powerful sounds of the cello have contributed to its success and to its continuing status as one of the most refined and respected musical instruments in the world today. The study discusses the history of the cello and provides information about its introduction to Turkish music. The research investigates the place and importance of the cello in the creativity of Turkish composers. In this regard, the analysis of the creativity of Necati Giray, a contemporary Turkish music composer and cellist, constitutes the purpose of the research. The lack of research on Necati Giray's creativity has identified the problem situation. Using a descriptive survey model, the technical analysis of Necati Giray's works "Ağıt" and "Nihavend" is conducted. The universe of the research consists of Necati Giray's works "Ağıt" and "Nihavend," and the sample consists of versions of these works arranged for two violins, cello, and double bass orchestra. A literature review was conducted using books, scientific articles, music scores, interviews with Necati Giray, and his autobiography as data sources. The findings section presents the technical analysis of these works. As a result of the research, the creativity of Necati Giray, a Turkish musician, cellist, composer, and academician, and his contributions to Turkish music through his works have been evaluated. It has been seen that this study, as an unexplored topic, is important in terms of being a source of reference and guidance.
