Abstract (EN)
Aim: This study was carried out to examine the effects of facilitated tucking and white noise on stress and sleep of newborns in nasal CPAP. Material and Method: The study was carried out as a randomized controlled experimental study in newborns with nasal CPAP in the neonatal intensive care units of Inonu University Turgut Ozal Medical Center between November 01, 2020 and February 04, 2022. The sample of the study consisted of 108 newborns (facilitated tucking (n₌36), white noise (n₌36), control (n₌36)) who received nasal CPAP support in neonatal intensive care units. Facilitated tucking and white noise applications and stress and sleep parameters of newborns in the experimental group were evaluated. The newborns in the control group did not receive any treatment other than the routine practices of the clinic. Sleep parameters of newborns were recorded with an actigraph device for 24 hours. Data were collected with the 'Newborn Descriptive Information Form', 'Sleep Tracking Form' and 'Newborn Stress Scale'. Results: It was determined that newborns in the facilitated tucking and white noise group increased their sleep time between 15-18, 18-21, 21-24, 9-12 hours, and total sleep duration and sleep efficiency score averages, while stress score averages decreased (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was found that facilitated tucking and white noise showed similar results in newborns with nasal CPAP, increasing the sleep duration and sleep efficiency of newborns, and decreasing their stress levels.
