Abstract (EN)

In this study was concluded on research of phytochemical studies on C. babylonica is kind of Centaurea (Asteraceae), total phenol content and antioxidant activity study, detect of essential oil content and anti-cancer effect. C. babylonica was collected from Camliyayla sub-province in Mersin at July, 2015. Above ground part of plant was powdered after that analysed essential oil and extraction. Analysis of the acquired essential oil was examined with antioxidant activity of obtained extract different polarity, phytochemical pretesting and quantitation. Above ground part of C. babylonica plant contents were examined from obtained essential oil of using Clevenger apparatus, prepared in accordance the European Pharmacopoeia (2010), with GS/MS. The main components of essential oil were determination respectively, methyl oleate (30.1%), methyl hekzadekanoat (10.5%) and trikosan (6%). Amount of total phenolic substance was determined from above ground part of plant hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol extract was prepared respectively, with method of Folin-Ciocaltaeu. Antioxidant activity experiments were evaluated from 1,1-difenil-2-2 pikrilhidrazil (DPPH) determination of radical scavenging effects and 2,2'-azino-bis-3-etilbenzotiazolin-6-sülfonic acid (ABTS) methods. In vitro cytotoxic effects of extracts obtained from above ground part of species was determined using C6 (Glioma), A549 (Human lung adenocarcinoma) and MCF-7 (Human breast cancer) with MTT test. Effects of extracts on healthy cell line was investigated by looking at the DNA synthesis inhibition for selectivity. While prepared extract with methanol show moderate impact, extract of ethyl acetate and hexane does not show antioxidant properties were found. Cytotoxic effect was still seen higher in methanol extract.
