Abstract (EN)

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: The aims of this study are to test the validity and reliability of SPOFIA (The Subjective Perception of Post-Operative Functional Impairment of the Arm) for patients who had surgeries for breast cancer, and to determine the effect of education of Roper, Logan and Tierney's daily life activities for the arms disfunction and lymphedema. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The researh was conducted in two phases. İn first phase methodological method and in second phase randomized controlled duplicative measured experimental model is used. Permissions from ethic committee and the owner of the SPOFIA scales are taken. Datas were collected from a university hospital between November 2017- October 2018. İn the first phase of the research for the turkish validity of the SPOFA scale 142 patients were used, the second phase 60 patients (30 patients for control group and 30 patients for response group) were used. Patient data forms, SPOFİA, Katz Daily Life Activity Scale, DASH and SF-36 life quality scales were used in the research. Three meetings were done with the patients after the surgery (first week, first month and three months). İn the first weeks meeting patient were given individual education and an educational brochure (booklet). For the data analyse, definitive statistical methods, independent (self reliable) t test, ki square and varyans analizi were used. FINDINGS: We have seen Spofia scale is validand trust worthy for turkish patients and can be used for long temr individual followup. İn second phase findings we have seen the average of spofia, dash, katz-gya scales are down due time, and an increase for sf 36 subscale point average. In intervention group SPOFIA, DASH and SF-36 life quality scales results were significant, also in this group in arm circumference measurements upper arm circumference reasults were statistically meaningful (p<0,05). But KATZ scale averages were not different than other group. CONCLUSION: As a result, it was found that SPOFIA scale is reliable in breast cancer women lymphedema followup. training was found effective in breast surgery patients' lymphedema prevention, this training also helped daily activities and increased life quality.
