Examination of Surgical Nurses' Professional Values, Bricolage Activities and Individual Innovation Behaviors

Purpose: The research was planned and implemented to determine the professional values, bricolage activities and individual innovation behaviors of surgical nurses. Materials and Methods: The study is of descriptive cross-sectional type. 200 nurses working in surgical clinics, operating rooms, intensive care units and emergency rooms at Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital were included in the research. Data were collected with the Nurse Identification Form, Nurses' Professional Values, Bricolage Activities and Individual Innovativeness Scales. SPSS 22.0 package program was used to evaluate the data. In the analysis of the data, number percentage distribution and descriptive statistics were performed to describe demographic characteristics. The suitability of the data for normal distribution was checked with the Kolmogorov Simirnov normality test. Since the data did not show a normal distribution, Mann Whitney U was evaluated using the Kruskal Wallis test and Spearman correlation analysis. Results: The average age of nurses is 31.87±6.38, 69% are women, 52% have a bachelor's degree, 39.5% have worked in the profession for 11-20 years, 77% chose the profession willingly. The professional values scale in nursing mean score was determined as 120.61±22.10, the bricolage activities scale mean score was 32.17±4.73, and the individual innovation scale mean score was 65.18±8.20. It was found that there was a moderate positive correlation between the nurses' professional values scale and its sub-dimensions and the bricolage activities scale. It was found that there was a weak positive correlation between the sub-dimensions of the nurses' professional values scale and the individual innovation scale. Conclusion:As a result of the statistical analysis: It was determined that the nurses whose professional values average score and sub-dimensions average score were high had a high average score of bricolage activities. A moderate positive relationship was found between professional values in nursing, responsibility, human dignity, action and autonomy dimensions and opinion leadership and risk taking sub-dimensions. A weak positive relationship was found between professional values and sub-dimensions in nursing and the individual innovation scale.
